Face-to-Face Meetings Generate Most Ideas, Scientific Study Finds
The best brainstorming sessions take place in person during face-to-face meetings, according to a new scientific study.
Conducted by the IMEX Group in partnership with the Meetology Group, the study involved an experiment that was designed to test the question, “Does meeting face-to-face improve creativity compared to virtual meetings?” As part of the experiment, pairs of participants engaged in brainstorming sessions face-to-face, over the phone and via video chat. The results showed that face-to-face sessions generate more ideas, a “marginally” higher quality of ideas and a greater variety of ideas than either phone or video chat.

American Airlines, US Airways Announce Merger
After months of speculation, airline rumors became airline reality today when AMR Corp., the parent company of American Airlines, announced a merger with US Airways Group. The deal, worth approximately $11 billion, was approved separately by the boards of both companies and will create the world’s largest airline, based on passengers and revenue.

Their main concerns should come as no surprise. F&B is a big interest, with an emphasis on healthy, fresh and tasty food. The planners continue to note the growing influence of social media. And there is some indication that, with budgets still tight, groups are being restrictive about who attends meetings.

Meeting Planners Give Back During Convening Leaders
During its annual meeting, Convening Leaders — concluding today in Orlando — meeting planners gave back to their host community in spades, according to the Professional Convention Management Association (PCMA), which offered attendees at this year's meeting a choice of three different charitable opportunities: Party with a Purpose, Hospitality Helping Hands and the Network for the Needy Donation Drive.
